Bumless Chums
I didn't really have a lot of expectations about this movie. I knew nothing about it before walking in. But I was pleasantly surprised. It felt more like a collection of conversations than a movie, but all of the conversations were so entertaining. I was surprised that Coogan and Brydon actually played fictionalized versions of themselves. I think this took a lot of guts, because neither of them played very flattering versions of themselves - Coogan was sort of a stick in the mud womanizer, while Brydon could be obnoxious with how long he drew out his impressions (although admittedly most of his impressions were pretty funny). But they both had good qualities too. I admired how devoted to his wife Brydon was, and when Coogan decided to relax and have fun he was actually entertaining to be around. Not only that, but you got to see Coogan being lonely and jealous and his inner fears - I don't think they justify his behavior, but they make him sympathetic at least.
Although food was only in the film for a small amount of time, when it was, it stole the show. Those shots of preparation in the back were really stunning. I got so hungry, they wouldn't stop showing scallops, and now I really want scallops.

The interaction between these two was great - very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the food shown last night was bad enough...must you mention the scallops now?? Now I want some again! ;)
