Staring into Your Soul
I have to say I was very impressed by the cinematography and the way Tokyo Story was told, but it was no means my cup of tea. A little too one-note in its tone and the pacing, my goodness, it was like watching a snail race molasses. I did like the overall story, though, as well as the themes, and the beautiful framing of the shots. Especially the shots in the houses, framed by the shoji (rice paper walls) and the stairs. It was a little off putting how, any times during conversations, the characters would stare straight at the camera and almost talk to you. I won't lie, it was super creepy at times.
But at the same time it almost made you a part of the story. You were the parents, you were the children. If you wanted to just be a casual observer, the story wouldn't let you. And I think that was super effective. I just wish that it was at a pace that made me want to be a part of the story
