I really loved this movie, but its a Kurosawa film, so its a given. I think my favorite part was the relationship between Watanabe and Toyo, the girl who used to work at his department. It was a really sweet almost Father- Daughter relationship. You could tell he was so happy to take her out and do fun things, that he was obviously entranced by how she lived her life with so much joy. It was a shame that she ended up taking it the wrong way, but I can't blame her. If I was in her position and a much older man kept insisting we go out and do fun stuff I'd start getting suspicious too and probably call it off. At least she was able to inspire him to do something important with his life, even if we never saw her again after that point in the film.
