After Life

Wow. What a fascinating film. I didn't know anything about After Life before watching the film. The concept of a "in-between world" of life and death was really interesting and really well thought out. It was very interesting to me that the film revolves around the concept of the "after life" but it was really more about life itself. My favorite aspect of the film was probably at the beginning of the film when every person was being asked what their favorite/unforgettable memory was about their life. Some people focused on their happiest moments of their life (about love, flying in an airplane, dancing as a little girl, etc.) while others focused on the unhappy aspects of life (war, the loss of a loved one, etc.). This comes to show that some people view life in more of an optimistic light while others may feel lost, alone, or depressed about how their life has turned out. My favorite character definitely was the old woman who collected various items from the courtyard and laid them out in a neat and orderly fashion. I loved how sweet and innocent her character was and she brought out some of the happier moments of the film which contradicted nicely with the depressing subject of death. The final half hour of the film was also really cool to watch (as a film student) the filming of the "memories" of everyone and see the genuine happiness of the people reflecting upon their life. Overall, I was really impressed with After Life and I thought it had a great concept that revolved around a difficult and emotional subject matter very well.
