A lot of people were complaining about the ending of
lunchbox and I really liked it so I am going to do my best to explain at least
why I think it was ended in the way it was.
The big line from the film was “sometimes the wrong train will get you
to the right destination.”, it was said several times throughout the film and
is even in the last letter written by Ila to Saajan and then at the end of the
note lies the key, at least in my opinion to the entire ending she says “We’ll
see.”. This shows that Ila is nervous
about doing what many people in her culture would consider wrong, leaving her
husband to be with a much older man.
Likewise Saajan is going to be with a much younger woman and doesn’t
know how he feels about it. So in both
of their minds they are on the “wrong train” and they don’t know whether this
train will continue on to it’s wrong destination, rejection and regret, or if
it will bring them to the right destination, happiness. In the end of the movie Ila is getting ready
to go to the train station and Sajaan is on a train to her house and then it
ends. I believe that this is done to
give the audience the same feeling that is currently being felt by the two main
characters. I like this ending as it
makes the characters more relatable and adds more weight to their decisions to
go against convention.
